WHAT’S HAPPENING IN MARKETING TODAY?

Meta X UFC collab, High-profile brands fight over TikTok & Ford launches new pro-America campaign

Meta has officially signed a deal with the UFC.

2025's most iconic link up to date. It comes as no surprise, considering Zuck has increasingly shown interest in the combat sports league over the last few years. Dana White, owner of the UFC, was appointed to Meta board earlier this year, following his personal relationship with mixed martial arts. The partnership means we’ll be getting exclusive content across Meta apps surrounding fights and athletes. Meta will also become the “official fan technology partner” of the group. I’m assuming it also has something to do with White being a long-time Trump supporter, as the partnership could be a way for Zuck to better align with the administration.

Here are all the companies trying to buy TikTok ahead of the looming deadline, as per AdWeek

A flurry of high-profile suitors has randomly entered the race in the last seconds. Applovin, Amazon, Oracle, Blackstone, and Andreessen Horowitz are now all competing for control of the highly influential social media platform that boasts an impressive 170 million American users. And so, the saga continues. Because God forbid it ever be easy or boring!

Ford has a new post-Trump tariff slogan: "From America, For America".

The iconic car manufacturer is undeniably Americana. And it's paying its dues to its most loyal customer base. A new campaign promotes the brand's American identity and discounts for car buyers as Trump's tariffs on the auto industry go into effect. Ford has the largest auto manufacturing footprint in the U.S., importing 21% of the vehicles it sells in the country. In comparison, GM imports 46%.

In the advert, Bryan Cranston delivers a patriotic voiceover, explaining that Ford is the automaker that “employs the most hourly workers” and “assembles the most vehicles in the country.” He also mentions “this unprecedented moment in automotive history” - a reference to Trump’s tariffs. The ad ends with an offer: employee pricing for everyone, meaning customers will pay the same as Ford employees do for their vehicles. I’m interested to see which other brands follow suit and try their luck to nab their share of the market post-tariff chaos.

Anyway, that’s all folks!

DEEP DIVE

10 Ways to turn posts into profit (because 1M on the 'gram but 0 in the bank is not the way to go)

We’ve all seen it happen: A brand racks up thousands of likes, comments, and shares—only to realise none of that engagement is translating into actual revenue.

Congrats! You’re internet famous… and broke. If your brand’s social media presence is giving main character energy but your sales numbers are giving side character struggle, it’s time to make a change. But HOW do you turn that digital buzz into real-world bucks?

1. Make engagement a two-way street

Social media is not a megaphone. It’s a conversation. So if you’re treating your audience like a passive audience instead of potential customers, you’re doing it wrong. Respond to DMs, reply to comments (not just with emojis—be human), and engage with their content too. The more personal you get, the more likely they’ll trust you enough to buy from you.

2. Don’t just post—persuade

It’s cute to have an aesthetic feed, but if your captions are just “New drop 💨” or “Link in bio,” you’re leaving money on the table. What problem does your product solve? What’s in it for them? Think about it: people don’t buy a $50 water bottle because they’re thirsty; they buy it because it promises better hydration, status, and a subconscious belief that they’ll finally get their life together.

3. Leverage UGC (because nobody trusts you)

You know who people do trust? Other customers. If you’re not using UGC, you’re missing out. Repost real reviews, customer testimonials, and unboxing videos. Bonus points if you make it easy for people to tag you in their posts by creating a catchy hashtag or incentivising shares with a giveaway.

4. Use CTAs that actually work

“Shop now” is basic. “Swipe up” is expected. If you want people to take action after seeing your ads, make it enticing. Try something like:

  • “You deserve this. Click here.”

  • “Join 10,000+ happy customers—get yours now.”

  • “This will sell out. Don’t wait.” A good CTA adds urgency, social proof, or a sense of exclusivity.

5. Create FOMO

Speaking of exclusivity—scarcity sells. Whether it’s a limited-time offer, a waitlist-only drop, or a disappearing discount, make people feel like they need to act now. Nobody wants to be the person who missed out on the trend.

6. Sell in the DMs (without being a fkn creep)

Some of the highest conversions happen in DMs, but there’s a fine line between helpful and desperate. If someone comments, “I need this,” don’t just like their comment—slide into their DMs with a discount code. For the love of marketing, do not copy-paste a robotic sales pitch.

7. Make buying stupidly easy

Every extra step between “I want this” and “I bought this” loses customers. If your purchase process looks like a scavenger hunt, you’re doing it wrong. Have shoppable posts, easy checkout options, and clear links. If you can, integrate direct shopping on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.

8. Retarget like a pro

Ever looked at a product online and then seen it follow you around the internet like a clingy ex? That’s retargeting, and it works. Use social media ads to remind people what they almost bought. Offer a small discount to push them over the edge.

9. Reward engagement with perks

People love feeling special. Reward your most engaged followers with exclusive discounts, first dibs on new drops, or loyalty perks. If they feel like insiders, they’ll act like insiders—aka, buy more and tell their friends.

10. Track what’s actually driving sales

All the engagement in the world means nothing if you don’t know where your sales are coming from. Use UTM links, track conversions through social media insights, and keep an eye on which content is actually moving the needle. That way, you can double down on what works and ditch what doesn’t.

The bottom line?

Social media clout is nice, but cashflow is better. If you want engagement to turn into sales, focus on persuasion, personalisation, and making it stupidly easy for people to buy. And if all else fails? At least make sure your memes are funny.

TREND PLUG

Probably needed a hug...

Sometimes, we all need a hug. But we don't get one.

We go and do something else all together. Like go for a walk or buy more lip gloss for the car. Or, yano, just go to sleep. And that's what this easy, effective TikTok trend is all about y'all! All you have to do is think of a time you needed a hug and use onscreen text to what you did instead. (Or make it up lolol.)

How you can jump on this trend:

In the video, simply film yourself doing the thing you did instead of getting a hug. Add the trending sound and you're good to gooo.

A few ideas to get you started:

  • Probably needed a hug but made myself my 5th coffee of the day instead

  • Probably needed a hug but bought another glittery notebook to add to my desk

  • Probably needed a hug but went for a walk round the block to get matcha again

ASK THE EDITOR

I'm a one man band and don't have a lot of time to make content. How do I find time to post consistently? - Kaleb

Hey Kaleb!

If you're finding you don't have a lot of time to create content, I'm guessing the real problem is you don't have a solid idea. So each time you need to write a post or make a video, you're starting from square one. Of course you're going to have a hard time, because you're overthinking every little element of each piece of content.

My advice is to spend some time working out the big idea of what your content is always going to be about. This article will help you get started in coming up with what that big idea is. Then, when it comes to creating a piece of content, you don't have to come up with a totally new idea. Instead, you're just working off the idea you've already fleshed out. That should mean it’s pretty easy to stay consistent because it doesn’t require too much thought or time.
