Amazon’s just changed the eComm game (again).

The brand has now teamed up with TikTok and Pinterest to bring in-app shopping to the social media platforms.

This makes online shopping easier than ever. But it means other brands in the fashion industry may need to re-think their strategy to keep up.

In today's newsletter:

  • Amazon's taking over TikTok & Pinterest (here’s why this is a sign of a big shift happening in eCommerce)

Amazon’s Taking Over TikTok & Pinterest

Amazon has teamed up with TikTok and Pinterest to keep in-app shopping and social media scrolling in a single place. No online shop has ever been this quick to act on consumers' excitement in the moment, so other online brands need to keep up - or risk being left behind.

Amazon wants you to buy goods through them. But they also need you to stay on social media and look at all their ads.

So, as if to echo a young girl in an Old El Paso commercial, the shopping giant proudly came out and asked 'Why not both?'

As of late last week, Amazon has joined forces with TikTok and Pinterest to bring in-app shopping to your feed.

This allows you to spot ads for Amazon products and buy them right there and then - without ever leaving the app.

From an end user's perspective, this might be the most efficient shopping experience ever conceived. But if you happen to run a fashion brand, this move should set off some warning bells for your online strategy.

Is this the future of eCommerce?

By connecting your Amazon account to your TikTok or Pinterest, you can click on a 'shopping ad' and promptly get today's trendiest fashion items sent your way.

This move signals a big shift in the eCommerce world, as content, entertainment and community become increasingly in simpatico with shopping experiences.

If this doesn't sound like your brand, then you need to pick up the pace, pronto.

How Moon Juice Used Quirky Content to Create a Cult Following

Moon Juice mixes biohacking secrets, astrology, and luxe self-care to create an Instagram feed that's as eccentric as it is engaging. The brand is a great example of how to be unapologetically honest with your content and build a huge following in the process.

The Moon Juice Instagram is so bizarrely catered to my interests that I can't believe anyone but me would enjoy their content.

Turns out I'm not as unique as I thought </3.

Some examples of what's filling the feed...up-to-date astrology info-drops, libido-boosting brownie recipes, and a BRAT-inspired matcha.

Wait, what exactly is Moon Juice??

Mysteriously, the brand describes itself on IG as 'Plants, science, wisdom 🌈🍄.' But, really, they're a juice bar chain/skincare and supplement company. With intense California wellness culture voibes.

What's intriguing about the company is the growth of their online community since they started out as a singular juice bar in 2012. They have a whopping 431K Instagram followers locked into their informative, playful feed.

And their TikTok is popping too, with 14.7K following their Sleepy Girl Mocktail content. (A trend-turned-trademarked product where girlies create adrenal-calming, magnesium-filled bedtime drinks.)

But what’s the strategy behind the seemingly random Moon Juice content?

Basically, it's their open way of discussing kinda gross health stuff on all platforms. Always in a uniquely cutesy, but informative way.

Trend Plug - I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO

This clip originates from a video of a grandma who was asked to play hide and seek.

In the clip, the grandma looks super confused, like she doesn't know what to do with herself. TikTokers have turned the video into a green screen template and are now going crazy, with over 20k videos to the sound.

Creators are using this trend to describe comedic situations where they are stuck trying to figure randoms things out. For example, me checking I have everything from the hotel before I leave, or, when you finally have a day off but you can't decide what to do.

How to jump on this trend:

Using the capcut template and this sound, use onscreen text to describe a situation that makes you act a little crazy. Also don't forget to add a background image that relates to the scenario (it doesn't need to be crazy good, even a low quality image will add to the silliness).

A few ideas to get you started:

  • When the client gives me so much work and I can't decide what to do first

  • Waking up trying to decide if I should go to work, lay in bed, or go out with friends

  • When the morning coffee hits

Ask the Editor

Q - I've just graduated and am trying to get a job in marketing. Besides applying for jobs, what should I be doing to speed up the process? - Hana

Hey Hana!

The best thing you can do right now is start growing your personal brand. It's a great way to get experience in marketing since you've just finished studying. You can practice applying what you've learnt by building your own brand.

My suggestion would be to start with LinkedIn, because recruiters and people who are hiring for marketing roles are on there. You could even post marketing campaign breakdowns, giving your take on why they did or didn't work. Start following people who work for brands you'd love to work for, then engage with their content.

I'm not saying this will mean you'll get a job right away. But it will definitely help you get your name out there and build your network. And that's much more effective than just applying for job postings alone!
