Ever had a “great” idea totally bomb?
Don’t worry. It happens to us all the time.
Today we're going to share one of our social media fails with you. Make sure you check out what mistakes we made so you don’t make them, too!
In today's newsletter:
Fred Again..shocks Australia with surprise shows (plus what you can learn from his success)
Six60's NZ tour sells out immediately (and how you can capitalise on their popularity)
The Willy Wonka debacle is still with us (here's how to get in on the chaos)
When our ideas turn to sh*t (and what you can learn from our mistakes)
Is TAS leaving social media? (now you’re curious, aren’t you?)
Let’s get to it!

So, What’s the Tea?
Fred Again.. is taking over the Tasman with a series of surprise pop-up shows across Australia. And people have literally lost their minds.
It all started with a series of cryptic Instagram stories, sending AU/NZ fans into high alert. The rumours quickly solidified as Fred Again.. himself confirmed a string of surprise gigs across Australia, including the iconic Sydney Opera House.
If Fred Again.. does his own marketing, he's a f*cking genius.
Using his personal social media to drop “Easter eggs” forced fans to follow and turn on notifications so they wouldn't miss a beat.
His commitment to connecting with his fans and bringing them on the experience with him takes community management to a whole new level. His content is unscripted, authentic, and keeps us wanting more.
Now his fans are taking to socials to uncover any theories as to where he might be going next.
So how can you use this in your content?
Create a thread of conspiracy theories about where you've "heard" he might be playing. The more outrageous and unbelievable, the better.
Use his music as audio in your short-form videos.
Share your thoughts on Fred Again..'s marketing tactics and why this surprise tour shook the world so much.
And in other concert news, Six60 just sold out their NZ tour!
Arguably New Zealand’s biggest band is back! Last Thursday, they announced an unprecedented tour for a band of their size. Six60 will play 23 shows at small local and regional centres, some of which only hold 100 people.
The tour sold out almost immediately, and we know what that means…If you’re in NZ, starting on 9th April, Six60 is going to fill your social media feeds.
And if you're a Kiwi business, you need to be ready.
As a brand, you can head to these venues on the night and park up outside with everyone else who couldn’t get in.
Do give-aways. Sell food and drinks. And, of course, film you and your brand interacting with these crowds.
You can see the on-screen text now: “POV: Couldn’t get into Six60 so set up outside instead.” 😂
Speaking of social media trends, the disaster that was the Willy Wonka Glasgow Experience isn't going away just yet.
Artists have breathed new life into this event by capitalising on the characters that were unique to this, um, interesting experience.
For example, "The Unknown" and the "Sad Oompa Loompa" have become very popular on social media!
Here's how you can get in on this hilarious trend:
Use these characters (or a parody of them!) in your own marketing.
Create branded merch of these characters (remember: there is no copyright on AI!).
Show off how an event you're throwing is leagues above the Glasgow event (can’t be that hard, right?).
When Our Ideas Flop (it happens!)
In January, Jony had a big mission on TikTok—get an invite to Stan's wedding. She managed to go to the wedding, but her TikTok videos about it didn't get as many views as she had hoped.
Early last year, Jony created a very successful TikTok storyline about convincing Stan to propose to his girlfriend. In an effort to keep that momentum going, she tried to make a follow-up series about securing an invite to the wedding. Unfortunately, this storyline didn't grab people's attention as well as the first one did.
So what happened?
Jony started the storyline with a presentation where she tried to convince Stan that she should be invited to his wedding. However, this didn’t gain as much traction as she expected. It seemed like people couldn't relate to the storyline, so they weren't that interested.
Why wasn't this strategy successful?
We didn't have enough videos relating to the wedding invite storyline. In fact, there were times when we were so busy with client work that we didn’t post for days at a time. As the wedding got closer, Jony had to scramble to come up with new ideas to have enough content.
In the end, the final video only got 150K views, which Jony didn't see as a success.
What can you learn from our mistakes?
Make sure you have plenty of supplemental content for your storylines. Looking back, we realise we didn’t put out enough content to support this storyline. This meant there wasn't much to keep people engaged before and after the presentation video. Just a few TikToks around this story didn’t give our audience enough to feel like they had a vested interest in the outcome.
Post content regularly, even if you're not completely happy with it. When our team gets busy, the amount of content going out can easily fall by the wayside. But consistency builds loyalty and engagement, which are key to growing an audience.

Ask the Editor
Q - I know you mostly focus on building your brand on social media. Have you thought about diversifying TAS to build economic resilience? - Kamoee
What an interesting question!
Especially since we just started an email newsletter (have you heard about it?!) 👀
No but really, you’re right. Up until this point, we’ve gone all in on building the TAS brand on social media. And we definitely aren’t about to stop. It’s what we’re known for and it’s what our clients want us to do for them.
But this newsletter is a way for us to bring our audience to a central place. Because, although we’ve had a lot of success on social media, sadly, the platforms don’t belong to us. As we grow our subscriber list, we’re building an asset that we do actually own.
That’s exactly why we’re putting so much into Your ATTN Please! Stay tuned to see how this goes.
